Origin
Home is a populous city in the South-Western state of Oyo, where the Niran family departed in 2002, for greener pastures. Where lanterns and candles lit the hallways in defiance of moody electricity. Home was Nigerian. Home was African.
Migration
Home is America - a place of many firsts. Home is a green apartment in the sometimes loud and complex city of Irvington, NJ; an urban city that demanded adaptation - of tongues, of attitude, of identity. Home, first Union, then Irvington, then up the Hillside suburbs - is where I earned Black. African-American.
Rooted
Home is wherever I choose to carry all of me, in my infinite expansiveness. Home, in essence... is wherever I have chosen to lay my roots. Home is where I have learned to ignite the light from within.
